Registration Information

For Retreat on June 21-30, 2024

Please read the guidelines before registering!

Qualification of the Attendees

Please understand the qualifications before registering the retreat.

  • The attendees must be able to take care of themselves during the retreat.
  • The attendees must not have any disease that may spread or harm others.
  • The attendees are not on any narcotics or any harmful substances. 
  • Any kinds of drugs (except prescriptions) or weapons are not allowed on the temple property.

What do you need to bring?

  • Photo Id
  • Toiletries and towel. Any fragrance, lotion, or make-up is not allowed.
  • Pillows and blanket (you will be sleeping on the floor)
  • Please bring enough uniform. A washer and dryer are not available for use.
  • If you drive to the temple, please bring your bedding.

Uniform:
The uniform must be white or off-white color only.

Men: white trousers, white shirts, and white socks

Women: white blouse with sleeves, long white pants or long skirts, and white socks. The underwear must be a similar color to the uniform. No jewelry of any kind. Hair must be tied.

Rules of Retreat

  • Strictly practice eight precepts of Buddhism.
  • If you have any questions about Vipassana meditation, please consult only the monks.
  • No talking during the retreat. No phone calls. Please consult the monks or the staff if you need to make an urgent phone call.
  • You may not argue or fight with your fellow meditators. If an incident occurs, both parties will be asked to leave the temple.
  • All attendees must participate in morning and evening chanting with no exceptions.
  • Make sure to clean up the common area. Always clean up after yourself.

Day 1:

4:00 p.m.  Check-in & Orientation

5:00 p.m. Accept eight precepts from the monks

5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Evening Chanting

6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Practice Meditation

8:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Listen to Dhamma Talk

Day 2 and the rest

5:00 a.m.-6:00 a.m. Morning Chanting and practice meditation

8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Practice Meditation

1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Practice Meditation

5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Evening Chanting

6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Practice Meditation

8:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Listen to Dhamma Talk

What are the eight precepts of Buddhism?

You will strictly practice the eight precepts of Buddhism. No exceptions.

  • Abstaining from killing.
  • Abstaining from stealing.
  • Abstaining from sexual activity.
  • Abstaining from telling lies.
  • Abstaining from intoxicating drinks and drugs.
  • Abstaining from eating after noon.
  • Abstaining from entertainment and beautifying the body.
  • Abstaining from using luxurious furniture, including bedding.

The retreat is free of charge, but a donation is accepted.
