Qualification of the Attendees

Please understand the qualifications before registering the retreat.

  • The attendees must be able to take care of themselves during the retreat.
  • The attendees must not have any disease that may spread or harm others.
  • The attendees are not on any narcotics or any harmful substances. 
  • Any kinds of drugs (except prescriptions) or weapons are not allowed on the temple property.

What do you need to bring?

  • Photo Id
  • Toiletries and a towel. No fragrance, lotion, or makeup is allowed.
  • Since you will be sleeping in a tent, please bring your own bedding. A tent will be provided.
  • Please bring enough clothing. A washer and dryer are not available for use.

Dress Code

  • To maintain the serenity and respect of the temple, all participants are required to wear polite, modest white clothing:

    • Attire: You may wear either white trousers or a white skirt.

    • Length: Short skirts and shorts are strictly prohibited.

    • Material: Please ensure the fabric is thick enough so that it is not see-through.

Important Information Regarding Meals

  • We would like to share some details regarding the meals provided during the retreat to help you prepare accordingly:

    • Donation-Based Meals: All meals are generously donated by local restaurants and members of our temple community.

    • Dietary Restrictions: Because our meals rely on these daily donations, we regret that we are unable to accommodate specific dietary needs or personal preferences (such as specialized allergies or strict nutritional diets) in every case.

    • Menu Type: Please be informed that our kitchen is not strictly vegetarian. Meals may include a variety of meat and vegetable dishes depending on what has been donated.

    If you have severe food allergies or very strict dietary requirements, we kindly recommend bringing your own supplementary food to ensure your comfort and well-being throughout the program.

  • Observance of the Eight Precepts and Meal Schedule: To support a peaceful and dedicated practice, all participants will follow the Eight Precepts. Regarding our daily meal schedule:
    • Meals: We serve food only for breakfast and lunch.

    • Afternoon & Evening: In accordance with the precepts, there will be no solid food served after noon. However, a variety of beverages (juice, tea, or cocoa) will be provided in the afternoon to sustain your energy throughout the day.

Rules of Retreat

  • Strictly practice eight precepts of Buddhism.
  • If you have any questions about Vipassana meditation, please consult only the monks.
  • No talking during the retreat. No phone calls. Please consult the monks or the staff if you need to make an urgent phone call.
  • You may not argue or fight with your fellow meditators. If an incident occurs, both parties will be asked to leave the temple.
  • All attendees must participate in morning and evening chanting with no exceptions.
  • Make sure to clean up the common area. Always clean up after yourself.

What are the eight precepts of Buddhism?

You will strictly practice the eight precepts of Buddhism. No exceptions.

  • Abstaining from killing.
  • Abstaining from stealing.
  • Abstaining from sexual activity.
  • Abstaining from telling lies.
  • Abstaining from intoxicating drinks and drugs.
  • Abstaining from eating after noon.
  • Abstaining from entertainment and beautifying the body.
  • Abstaining from using luxurious furniture, including bedding.

The retreat is free of charge, but a donation is gladly accepted.
